President-elect Donald Trump has officially named North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum the new Secretary of the Interior. Burgum, a two-term governor and former software executive, will also serve as the Chairman of the newly created National Energy Council, a key component of Trump’s strategy to enhance U.S. energy production and reduce regulatory barriers.
In his statement, Trump emphasized the significance of the National Energy Council, which will oversee all departments involved in American energy production, from permitting to distribution. “This Council will oversee the path to U.S. ENERGY DOMINANCE by cutting red tape, enhancing private sector investments, and focusing on innovation,” Trump said. The President-elect’s vision for energy dominance includes leveraging the nation’s vast natural resources to foster economic growth, lower inflation, and reduce national debt.
Burgum, 68, expressed gratitude for the nomination, writing on X, “I’m deeply grateful to the President for this amazing opportunity to serve the American people and achieve ENERGY DOMINANCE!”
Recognized for his business expertise and decisive leadership as governor, Burgum has focused on fiscal conservatism and deregulation, especially in North Dakota’s oil and gas industries.
