The NYPD has confirmed the identity of a 16-year-old boy, Mahki Brown from Brooklyn, who was killed in a shooting incident on Tuesday afternoon in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood.

The event occurred on Tuesday near Varick and Spring Streets, an area frequented by tourists and known for its shops, hotels, and attractions.

Authorities report that Brown was shot in the head and right thigh and succumbed to his injuries at Bellevue Hospital.

The incident prompted an emergency response following a 911 call about the shooting victim around 2:30 p.m.

The New York Post reported that the teen was a student at Broome Street Academy Charter High School, located in close proximity to the site of the shooting.

Police are currently pursuing two male suspects believed to have escaped the scene on Spring Street, with at least one riding a Citi Bike.

Authorities believed that the shooting incident was suspected of having arisen from a conflict between two groups, though it remains uncertain if Brown was specifically targeted.

The shooting was just one of at least three violent incidents involving teens in New York City on Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was slashed in the back of his head amidst an argument on an MTA bus in the Bronx, near East Tremont Avenue and Anthony Avenue, as reported by the police.

The teen’s injuries were not life-threatening. The suspects fled the scene, and law enforcement has yet to make any arrests.

Two hours later, in Brooklyn, at the intersection of South 2nd Street and Keap Street, according to police and sources, a pair of 15-year-old boys were stabbed during a fight.

Recent NYPD statistics indicate a 4.9% decrease in overall crime in New York City this April compared to last year, with a significant 30.3% reduction in murders.
