In an appearance on CNN Friday, February 10th, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she wants to see controversial Congressman George Santos “gone” from New York politics as she labeled him a “huge distraction.”

“I want him gone. I did not invite him to my bipartisan meeting because I didn’t think it would be productive, and also, he’s not on any committees. We were talking about what members can do on their committees. So, he’s a huge distraction for our state,” Hochul said to CNN.

“He’s a huge distraction for our state — and that’s not just from Democrats, that’s from Republicans,” she added. “He should just move on.”

Santos is currently the subject of a resolution submitted by the House Democrats for his removal. Media reports indicate the resolution is unlikely to reach the floor for a vote because the Republicans have not called on him to resign.

The calls for Santos to leave office come after he has been exposed for being a serial liar. The Long Island Congressman has lied about a plethora of things including his education, work experience and religious affinity. Santos also lied that his mother died in the World Trade Center during the 9/11 crisis. The Republican is currently under a slew of investigations on the local, state, and federal level. The investigations are into the validity of financial disclosures he made as he ran for office. The management of his campaign finances will be looked at as well as part of the investigation.

Santos has become so unpopular, a group of his constituents traveled to Washington, D.C. to protest against him on Tuesday, February 7th.

“On behalf of Concerned Citizens of NY-03, why are we here? Why did we come to Washington? We are here because Speaker McCarthy apparently cannot hear us when we speak from Long Island, so we had to come to Washington to make sure he hears us,” said Jody Kass Finkel, the coordinator of a group committed to having Santos ousted from office. “Santos is a grifter and now he’s grifting his way to Congress, to a congressperson salary of about $174,000 a year and benefits. Nobody trusts him. And as a result, he is impotent as a member of Congress in his ability to represent us.”

LittleAfrica News previously reported on Congressman Santos’ lies. Despite the wide news coverage of Santos’ deceptions, he still holds his position despite repeatedly showing his colleagues, opponents, and constituents that he does not tell the truth and is someone who cannot be trusted.
