Today, just before 4:00pm, the first group of 50 migrants arrived at PS 188 in Coney Island.  The group was comprised of men and women, no children.

On Friday, May 12, LittleAfrica News broke the story of the gym at PS 188 to be used as an overflow center for migrants.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Med-Rite, a contract vendor for intake and medical is on site.

Parents and elected officials were in an uproar on Friday upon learning the detached gym at PS 188 was going to be used to house migrants.  Neither the school principal, parents, or elected officials were notified by the city.

The next groups will be housed at PS 172 in Sunset Park and PS 189 in Crown Heights.

The NYC School Safety Coalition issued the following the statement in opposition to housing migrants at PS 188.
