On Sunday, July 21st, President Joe Biden, in a Twitter post, announced he would not seek re-election.
The announcement comes after weeks of pressure from both parties to step down as several public missteps occurred, leaving many to question his ability to lead the United States through another 4-year term.

In his statement, Biden said, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

He continued, “I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision.”

The presidential debate between Biden and former President Donald Trump left many concerned over Biden’s cognitive ability. A few days after the debate, Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin” and Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.” Several politicians in Washington, D.C. publicly asked Biden to withdraw or step down in the days and weeks following the public mishaps.

With Biden ending his candidacy for the upcoming November general elections, speculation begins as to who Americans will see on their ballots in less than 4 months.

This story is developing.
