World-class entertainment is coming to the city this summer as Mayor Eric Adams announces the return of the “Rise Up NYC” concert series. The announcement, made on Thursday, July 10th, builds upon Adams’ “We Outside Summer” initiative to get New Yorkers outside this summer with a variety of events and programs across the city. In the announcement, Mayor Adams said, “Summer is officially here, and it’s time for New York City to ‘Rise Up’ with us as we come together to celebrate the culture and music that make our city so great.”

The “Rise Up NYC” concert series will span 10 free concerts taking place across all five boroughs, with the artist lineup being announced in the next few weeks. There will be a collaboration with this concert series and the City Parks Foundation’s SummerStage, going into its fourth year.

“At a time when many people are struggling with rising costs, our ‘Rise Up NYC’ free concert series will not only provide a safe space for New Yorkers to enjoy the music they love without paying anything extra, but it is also a great opportunity to explore the five boroughs and deepen our ties to the city we call our home during our ‘ We outside Summer,’” Adams stated.

Chief of Staff and Deputy Mayor for Administration Camille Joseph Varlack hailed the return of the concert series, noting its impact on the city and previous successes. She further emphasized the importance of accessibility to the arts regardless of background and finances, saying, “Across the five boroughs, New Yorkers from all walks of life will come together to enjoy the best musical performances and entertainment our city has to offer. Art and culture are what make New York the greatest city in the world, and our ‘Rise Up NYC’ concerts will showcase them both — for free.”

Previous seasons of ‘Rise Up NYC’ saw performances from Patti Labelle, Ja Rule, Wyclef Jean, Sean Paul, and many other critically acclaimed musicians. This summer’s concert lineup includes performances by Beenie Man, Fabolous, Hezekiah Walker, Lisa Lisa, Sweet Sensation, Big Daddy Kane, Luis Vargas, A Boogie, Wayne Wonder, and more.

The first concert of this season is taking place on Saturday, July 19th, at Wingate Park in Brooklyn. There will be performances at Wingate Park all weekend, including Sunday, July 20th, and Monday, July 21st. Other performances will take place at venues across the city, including Midland Beach in Staten Island on Saturday, July 26th, and Sunday, July 27th, Harlem on Saturday, August 2nd, Orchard Beach in the Bronx on Wednesday, August 6th, and Thursday, August 7th, and Roy Wilkins Park in Queens on Saturday, August 16th, and Sunday, August 17th. “Music and the arts are the foundations of our city, and the ‘Rise up NYC’ concerts are going to light up the city that never sleeps with world-class performances all summer long. We encourage all New Yorkers to join us as we celebrate the vibrant entertainment of our city through our love of music,” said Mayor Adams.
