Assemblymember Landon Dais, in collaboration with local organizations, led a successful coat drive event at the Bronx DraftHouse to help Bronx families prepare for the cold winter months on Wednesday, October 23rd. The event, which drew extensive community support, saw partnerships with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., New York Cares Inc., and Bronx DraftHouse. Attendees donated over 60 coats, ranging from new to gently used, in a spirited community effort to provide essential warmth for those facing economic hardship.

Assemblymember Dais emphasized the drive’s significance for the community, especially for his district’s vulnerable groups, such as seniors and families. “These coats, as minimal as they may seem, might be the difference in someone not getting sick or being able to go to work or school,” he said. To show appreciation, the Bronx DraftHouse offered complimentary drink tickets to donors, enhancing the event’s warm, welcoming atmosphere.

The Kappa Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. played a key role in the drive, expressing pride in supporting the Bronx community. “This collaboration reflects our ongoing mission of providing vital resources to those in need, fostering unity, and exemplifying the values of collective action and compassion,” the chapter stated. Such collaborative efforts underscored the event’s impact on community solidarity.

Assemblymember Dais engaged with attendees, highlighting the importance of grassroots efforts to meet the needs of local residents. His office, in partnership with New York Cares Inc., is now coordinating with community-based organizations to distribute the collected coats across the Bronx, ensuring that they reach the most vulnerable as temperatures continue to drop.

This initiative demonstrates the power of community-driven support and the shared mission among local organizations to foster care and resilience in times of need. As winter approaches, the event’s success exemplifies a commitment to addressing the challenges facing Bronx families through unity and compassion.
