Assemblyman Landon Dais Op-ed: Let’s Keep Our Neighborhood Clean Together

Dear Neighbors, as your Assembly Member representing the 77th district, I’m concerned about jobs, education, safety, housing, and more. Today, I’d like to draw attention to a concern we all know is important: maintaining a clean neighborhood.

One of the simplest contributions every dog owner can make is ensuring their pets relieve themselves at the curb rather than in the middle of sidewalks. This act of responsible pet ownership not only keeps our shoes clean but also plays an important role in protecting our health. Dog waste causes harmful germs, and the last thing we want is to track something unhealthy inside our homes. Dog waste also attracts rats and other vermin.

And we can actually fix this. I am working with our city council to install stations throughout the neighborhood where residents can easily get bags to clean up after their pets. More importantly, as a community, we need to remember to curb our dogs and pick up after them. Together, we’ll make it convenient for everyone in our community to more easily be good neighbors.

However, these stations only work if we all use them. Whether or not you own a pet, each of us can help by reminding our neighbors that it’s important to keep our sidewalks and parks clean.

A cleaner neighborhood benefits more than curb appeal, it impacts our well-being – the health and happiness of our children and pets. Clean streets and parks mean reduced health risks and a more pleasant environment to live, work, and play in. Let’s think of our public spaces as extensions of our homes—places where we can gather and unwind in safety and comfort.

A clean community can also strengthen our local economy. Well-maintained areas attract visitors who will spend more time and money right here. By upholding clean standards in the 77th District, we improve our quality of life while growing our economy.

Together, we can take steps to ensure our dogs are cleaned up after, and our neighborhood remains free of litter. A cleaner 77th is not just more beautiful; it is also safer. My office is ready to work with you and your neighbors to keep clean standards in our area.

I would love to hear your suggestions for more improvements in our district. Your input is important as we work to improve our community together. Whether you know about an area that needs additional attention, or have ideas about recycling and sanitation, we want to hear from you. If you want to organize a community cleanup in your area, please let us know.

Thank you for your help in making our community a better place to live.
