Bloomberg Puts His Money Where His Mouth Is With $5 Million Donation to Cuomo Super PAC

Michael Bloomberg has made a record-setting $5 million donation to Fix the City, a super PAC supporting Andrew Cuomo’s campaign for mayor of New York City. The contribution is the largest ever made to a super PAC in a New York City race, pushing the PAC’s fundraising total to nearly $20 million ahead of the June 24 Democratic primary.

The donation followed Bloomberg’s public endorsement of Cuomo earlier in the week. A spokesperson for the PAC confirmed that the funds will significantly boost advertising and outreach, especially targeting Cuomo’s chief opponent, Zohran Mamdani. The Queens assemblyman backed by progressive and democratic socialist groups has drawn criticism from Bloomberg and others for supporting the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and advocating higher taxes on the wealthy.

Cuomo’s campaign and Fix the City have emphasized the former governor’s experience in managing crises and running government operations, contrasting him with Mamdani’s shorter political track record. The PAC has already spent over $10 million on TV and streaming ads and will utilize Bloomberg’s contribution to saturate media channels further as early voting begins.

Although Bloomberg and Cuomo often clashed during their overlapping time in office, the former mayor’s decision to back Cuomo highlights a shared concern over the party’s leftward shift. Conversations between aides reportedly led to a private meeting between the two earlier this week.

Campaign finance disclosures released Friday also show that Cuomo is in a significantly stronger financial position than most of his rivals. His campaign has reached the $7.9 million spending cap, while Fix the City operates without such limits.

With his donation, Bloomberg becomes the top individual contributor to the 2025 mayoral race, further solidifying Cuomo’s frontrunner status and underscoring establishment support for his return to City Hall.
