Andrew Cuomo received key endorsements on Wednesday, June 11th, as his campaign for New York City mayor gathered momentum ahead of the Democratic primary. Former Governor David Paterson and Manhattan Democratic Party Chair Keith Wright formally endorsed Cuomo during an event at Amy Ruth’s in Harlem, further strengthening his position in a race increasingly defined by experience and leadership credentials.

The announcement came a day after former Mayor Michael Bloomberg publicly backed Cuomo, marking a week of high-profile support for the former governor. Speaking before a crowd of supporters, Wright acknowledged past disagreements with Cuomo but expressed confidence in his leadership and capacity to deliver on major infrastructure projects.

“We built airports, we built bridges, housing should be nothing, should be very simple,” Wright emphasized. “I’m ranking him number one because he’s the leader that we need in this city at this time.”

Paterson, introduced by Wright, questioned the feasibility of promises being made by other candidates. Without naming names, he warned against “absurd extremes” and pledged his support for Cuomo based on proven governance. “I can’t think of anyone more capable than doing it than the one who did it before, from 2010 to 2021, when he was governor,” Paterson stated.

Cuomo, addressing supporters, highlighted his experience managing complex projects at the state level and his readiness to confront federal interference under the Trump administration. “There is nothing easy about governing New York City… Today, more than ever, New York City is in trouble,” he noted, referencing issues like affordable housing and public trust in law enforcement.
