President-elect Donald J. Trump announced the nomination of Pete Hegseth, former Fox News personality and Army combat veteran, as the next Secretary of Defense on Tuesday, November 12th. In a statement, Trump praised Hegseth’s dedication to military service and his alignment with the “America First” agenda.

“I am honored to announce that I have nominated Pete Hegseth to serve in my Cabinet as The Secretary of Defense. Pete has spent his entire life as a Warrior for the Troops, and for the Country. Pete is tough, smart, and a true believer in America First,” Trump said.

Hegseth, 44, an Army National Guard veteran, has earned multiple awards, including two Bronze Stars, during his service in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, and Afghanistan. His active participation in veterans’ organizations and his military experience have made him a prominent advocate for United States veterans and military personnel.

Hegseth recently authored the FOX News best-selling book “The War on Warriors”, which critiques the political landscape surrounding U.S. military personnel and advocates for a return to meritocracy and excellence within the armed forces.

Trump expressed strong confidence in Hegseth’s leadership, stating, “America’s enemies are on notice – Our Military will be Great Again, and America will Never Back Down.” He further emphasized Hegseth’s commitment to the “Peace through Strength” policy, which aims to enhance the nation’s defense capabilities.

Senator Mike Waltz, R-Fla., a retired Army National Guard officer and war veteran, endorsed Hegseth’s nomination, saying, “The Pentagon needs real reform, and they’re getting a leader who has the grit to make it happen.” In contrast, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren criticized the nomination, calling Hegseth unqualified for the position and stating, “A Fox & Friends weekend co-host is not qualified to be the Secretary of Defense.”

As the Senate reviews Hegseth’s nomination, lawmakers and experts will closely examine the potential impact of his leadership on military policy.
