TreeHouse Foods, a major food manufacturer based in Oak Brook, Illinois, issued a recall for more than 500 varieties of frozen waffles sold under several brand names, including Walmart’s Great Value and Target’s Good & Gather. This recall was prompted by concerns over possible listeria contamination discovered during routine testing at one of the company’s facilities. The recalled products were sold across the United States and Canada and distributed through major retailers like Walmart, Target, Publix, and Aldi.

Listeria infections can cause serious health issues, especially in pregnant individuals, newborns, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can lead to more critical conditions such as miscarriage, stillbirth, and life-threatening infections. While no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall so far, consumers are advised to check their freezers for the recalled products and either dispose of them or return them to the store for a refund.

The recall affects a wide variety of waffle products, including homestyle, buttermilk, blueberry, and chocolate chip waffles. Brands impacted by this recall include Kodiak, Simple Truth, Food Lion, Clover Valley, and Great Value, among others. Consumers can find the full list of recalled products on the FDA website. TreeHouse Foods is working closely with the Food and Drug Administration to ensure the safety of its consumers.

This recall follows another significant recall in the food industry, as nearly 12 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products from BrucePac were also recalled earlier this month due to listeria contamination concerns. These products were distributed nationwide in frozen meals, sandwiches, salads, and bowls, with some even sent to schools across the country.

Listeria is especially dangerous because symptoms may not appear until weeks after consuming contaminated food. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urges consumers to be vigilant and seek medical advice if they suspect exposure to listeria. This recall serves as a reminder of the ongoing risks posed by foodborne illnesses.

Consumers with questions can contact TreeHouse Foods directly at their customer service line for further information on the recall and safety precautions.
