Two teenagers were shot and injured near a school in Cambria Heights, Queens on Wednesday, January 18. The shooting incident is alleged to have occurred in front of the Campus Magnet High School around 5:00 pm.

According to the police, a large fight broke out before the shooting occurred. A 14-year-old boy, who was the target of the shooting incident, was shot in the right leg. The second victim of the shooting incident was a 16-year-old girl, who was struck in the right ankle. Reports indicate she was caught in the crossfire of the shooting.

According to the police, the suspect in the shooting incident is a 12-year-old boy. The police claim they witnessed him dropping a gun as he ran off from the scene. The boy is not a student at the school and was reportedly in custody at the time of writing. The two teenage victims of the shooting incident were rushed to medical care centers. The girl was taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center while the boy was rushed to Long Island Jewish Medical Center. The two teenagers are expected to survive the shooting.

Teenage Shootings A Recurring Trend

Violent shooting incidents in New York City involving teenagers has become a widespread issue affecting all of the city. LittleAfrica News has repeatedly reported on shooting incidents involving teenagers, with several of the incidents ending fatally. On Tuesday, January 17th, NYPD officer Paul Lee and his partner were shot in the Bronx by a 16-year-old boy. Officer Lee suffered an injury to his arm.

Mayor Eric Adams has lamented the situation more than once, as he did so at a press conference held at St. Barnabas Hospital, where Officer Lee was receiving treatment. “He is proud to have done his job on the front line to deal with the violence we have witnessed, particularly in the borough of the Bronx,” Adams said. The mayor, a former police officer, added, “Too many young people have too many guns in their hands. And our job is to create a pathway to stop that and to ensure that we remove these guns off our streets.”
