Three-Year-Old Son of Musician Davido Drowns in Family Swimming Pool

The death of Ifeanyi Adeleke, the son of Afro-pop singer David Adeleke widely known as Davido, has been confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command.

Police Spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that Adeleke, David’s three-year-old kid, drowned in the family’s swimming pool at their house in Lagos, Nigeria on Monday, October 31, while David and his fiancee, Chioma Rowland, were away.

The child was reportedly sent to Evercare/Lagoon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. This tragic news comes just three weeks after Adeleke’s third birthday.

In the caption of a photo of Adeleke while celebrating his birthday, David said, “I pray with all my heart that God grants you perfect health and pure happiness for as long as humanly possible, you will grow to be greater than me, Happy birthday, son.”

The police are currently questioning eight members of the pop star’s home staff to ascertain what happened to the musician’s child.

Hundeyin, the police spokesman, said, “It is true, the child is dead. About eight people were brought in for questioning, and we are investigating the matter. Anyone found guilty in the death of the child would be arrested.”

Still on the News…

He added, “We are reviewing the CCTV cameras to get additional information about the circumstances of his death.”

Although David and Chioma haven’t released an official statement regarding the death of the 3-year-old, Chioma sent her first tweet after the incident on November 2nd, saying, “It is well.”

Politicians, musicians, friends, and fans have expressed their sympathy to David and Chioma over the loss of their son through social media.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu posted a message on Twitter mourning the loss of the youngster. He said, “Death leaves a heartache no words can heal, I express my deepest condolences to David and Chioma, over the death of their son,” he wrote. “Ifeanyi was loved, and his smile made the world smile. I pray that God grants you strength even as my thoughts and prayers are with you.”

Nigerian politician Peter Obi, a leading candidate in the country’s presidential race in 2023, said, “I send my sincere condolences to Davido and Chioma, over the death of their son Ifeanyi,” he tweeted. “I cannot begin to imagine the pains they are going through at the moment. May God grant them healing, strength, and comfort in this trying time. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
