Shooting Outside Representative Zeldin’s Home Leaves Two Injured

Shooting Outside Representative Zeldin’s Home Leaves Two Injured

A shooting occurred outside US Representative and candidate for the governorship of New York State, Lee Zeldin’s home in Long Island. The shooting occurred on Sunday, October 9th.

According to reports, Zeldin’s twin daughters Arianna and Mikayla were studying in their home when they heard gunfire outside. They immediately made their way upstairs, hid, and called 911. Responding officers found two people injured in the shooting lying outside the house. The shooting took place while Zeldin and his wife Diana were in a car leaving the Bronx Columbus Day Parade.

“Law enforcement is currently at our house. My entire family is at home working with the investigators and providing the security footage from our home cameras,” Zeldin said. “My daughters are shaken, but ok. Like so many New Yorkers, crime has literally made its way to our front door. My family is grateful to all who have reached out and we will provide another update when we can.”

Still on the News…

Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed that she had been informed about the incident. “As we await more details, I’m relieved to hear the Zeldin family is safe and grateful for law enforcement’s quick response,” she said.

Hochul and Zeldin are locked in a battle for the governorship of New York, with the election taking place next month. Zeldin was a direct victim of crime in July while he was on the campaign trail. A man attacked him with a sharp knuckle duster while he was giving a speech on stage in Fairport. Zeldin, fortunately, managed to avoid harm.

A poll by Trafalgar Group, an opinion polling and survey company, showed that Zeldin had closed the gap between himself and Hochul by two points. One of Zeldin’s campaign points is an anti-crime stance as he blames the Democrats for the serious levels of crime in New York. The fact that a shooting that could have caused harm or death to those close to him, occurred outside his home, gives Zeldin a stronger standing point to push his stance on crime.
