New York City has been going through a concerning wave of crime. There have been numerous reports of shootings with two police officers recently gunned down while attending to a domestic dispute. According to reports, the number of shootings has increased by close to a hundred percent. In what is another worrying trend, stabbings are showing to be more prevalent in the city. It seems as though both men and women are being targeted in these stabbings.
On Thursday, February 10th, a 19-year-old woman was stabbed on an Upper Manhattan train. Her assailant allegedly asked for the time and when a response was not forthcoming from the woman, who was with her boyfriend, he stabbed her in the arm. The victim was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital where she was in a stable condition. The assailant escaped from the train. Two other stabbings were reported in the city on the same night. In the Bronx, a man was stabbed in the neck. He survived the attack and was seen by the medical staff at St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was diagnosed as being in a stable condition. A 24-year-old man was stabbed in the back and the right thigh in Hamilton Heights. The circumstances of the stabbing were unclear and the victim was not willing to share any information with the police. He is also in stable condition in Harlem Hospital.
Dorothy Clark-Rozier, a 50-year-old woman, was randomly stabbed in the back on Sunday, February 6th, while she was on her way to work. She was allegedly fatally assaulted by Anthony Wilson, a 34-year-old man. It is reported that Wilson allegedly stabbed Clark-Rozier in the back for no apparent reason. Clark-Rozier managed to rush to her workplace with her injuries. When she got to the Pathmark she worked at, she informed her colleagues that she had been assaulted. She was rushed to Kings County Hospital Center where she later died. Her niece, Natasha Campbell, was heartbroken and the feelings of sadness were made worse by the fact that Clark-Rozier was not supposed to be working that day. “She was covering for somebody,” Campbell said. According to Campbell, she had asked her aunt not to go to work that morning because it was cold outside but her aunt insisted, telling Campbell that she had boots. “She was a loving, caring, joyful, fun person,” Campbell said about her aunt. “She was like a mom to me. She raised me since I was two months old. My family is just lost. It’s like we’re all missing an arm, like we know we used to have that arm but it’s not there no more,” she added. The man who stabbed her, Wilson, had no connection to her according to sources. It was a completely random attack. Wilson was arrested the day after the attack and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. According to reports, when interviewed, the suspect was incoherent, interviewers believed he was behaving like he was drunk. Wilson was described as an emotionally disturbed person who would need to undergo psychiatric evaluation. Dorothy Clark-Rozier had ambitions of becoming a nurse. She leaves behind a 23-year-old son. “She did not deserve to die,” her niece said.
